DISTRICT 2 ISSUES
Experience
In these turbulent times we can’t gamble with our city’s future by electing inexperienced City Councilmembers. I have the experience of 8 years being on the Tustin City Council and two years as your Mayor. I know how to get things done for our district and our town. I will hit the ground running to help solve our district’s issues, and take advantage of opportunities.
Safer Neighborhoods
& Prioritizing Public Safety
We need to make our neighborhoods safer. We need to keep gang violence out of our District. Law enforcement needs the tools and support from the City Council to be successful. Also, we need to get back to a more community policing model. I am gratified to have the endorsement of Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes, who knows I know how to get things done. I am also gratified to have the support of Tustin Firefighters with the endorsement of the Orange County Professional Firefighters Local 3631.
Better Parking Solutions
We need to have a better more creative approach to parking. The City needs to take the lead with investment and infrastructure.
A Better Local Economy
Tustin and particularly our district needs to attract businesses that are looking at hiring local residents for good jobs. We need to compete with other cities for business location. Tustin needs to proactively go after targeted businesses to locate in Tustin. These new businesses will create new and better paying jobs for Tustin and our district. We attract these businesses through incentives and cutting regulation. We can create these incentives by leveraging Legacy land sales. The more new businesses the more tax revenue is generated. We need to look at recruiting like companies to take advantage of economies of scale.
School Choice
Families in our district and in Tustin should have a choice of schools to be able to choose which academic environment works best for their family.
Affordable Housing
We need to re-emphasize affordable housing in our district through the city. The City needs to make sure “we leave no stone unturned” in order to take complete advantage of affordable housing opportunities. We need to communicate and look at creating better paths from renting to ownership.
